Imagine you are a fictional friend. What would you say to yourself? What advice would you give? Maybe think about the things you would say to lift someone's spirits?
I don't think I can think of much to say to myself that hasn't already been said by those around me. But I think I'd be harsher. If I was a friend to someone else going through what I am I think I would be more gentle. We're always tougher on ourselves. I always beat myself up about not doing better and then become frustrated. I think we need to be a friend to ourselves and speak gently and positively to encourage ourselves. We're not as compassionate than what we are with others. Sometimes I think it would be helpful to look at ourselves from the outside and speak as though we are speaking to a friend. We give more sympathetic and meaningful advice that doesn't ask as much. Be kind to yourself. 💝
